Now that "Santa" (the tentative name we call our baby ... hey, who doesn't like Santa? ... am I right?) is on his way to town, people keep asking me, "What's your nursery theme?" or "What are your colors?" Brad and I have been kind of crudely responding with "Free." Our theme is whatever free stuff we can get & piece together. Give us a break. We've had our hands a bit tied up with the whole moving thing. But ... the little guy's room is coming along. We've truly only spent ... very little of our own money so far. Thankfully, we've been blessed with lots of friends & relatives who have unloaded their baby stuff upon us.
As for decorating, I am not into the cutesy wootsy baby stuff in most of the stores. So, I pulled in some of my whimsical record paintings, made a funky mobile out of another old record, & then tied together some paintings & other pieces that I have made or purchased over the years. We will train this child to appreciate art ... he doesn't have a choice & that's that!
I just wanted to show how some of the pieces from our Green Gallery (which is FABULOUS by the way!) could go a long way in decorating a room ... in this case, putting a fun spin on a nursery. The record paintings really work great in a grouping & being priced at only $25 a pop, it's actually reasonable to consider picking up a group of 3 or 5. The record mobile is a little edgier than the traditional stuffed animal ones in most stores ... and upcycled, good to the environment, made locally, & unique :)
In our Green Gallery, Suzanne Miller makes some fantastic hanging fish sculptures ... among many other wonderful creations. Brad and I purchased one last year, and now the little swimmer has made his way into the nursery to join the other whimsical animals.
So ... there are ways to decorate a nursery other than using the typical things you'd find in the baby section of Walmart. Consider shopping locally & cultivating a love for art & appreciation for your community. It could be good for your kiddos ... just a thought. Have a great day, everyone!
