Next Friday (September 21st) a new series of artwork will be celebrated at the Monroe Clinic. Three different photographers will have work on display in different parts of the building. I am one of them!
I have a series of 7 photographs of animals displayed on a long wall near the ICU. I was given very specific instructions "no crows, no winter, no skulls, and stay away from anything that makes people sad or think of death..." really, these were my instructions. I was a little sad to have to pass up all of my pictures of skulls and crossbones, but I got over it ...kidding, only kidding.
I chose to feature 7 animals as individuals. The pictures put a smile on my face, and make me question the character and personalities of these animals. My thought was that these animals could brighten up what can be a very sad space, in a whimsical way. Animals also have a great way of providing companionship and even therapy. By bringing in these images, I felt like I could break the rules a little and allow these furry/feathery friends to take part in the moments that were taking place in the hospital, whether they be sad or celebratory.
Please join me in attending the opening reception Friday Sept. 21st from 5-7 pm. Appetizers and wine will be served. Mark your calendars. I hope to see you there!
