The Monroe Clinic commissioned me to publicize some of their employee excellence slogans in an artful way using ... drum roll please ... sidewalk chalk! So, at different Monroe Clinic branches throughout Illinois & Wisconsin, I've been chalking up the employee entrances. Here is a little taste of my yesterday. In the morning, when my fingers were locking up, my body was cold & slow moving, & I was in the cold shadow of the building, I wasn't too chipper. However, by the time I made it to the second location, the sun was out, I was shedding layers, and thinking, "I'm getting paid to draw with sidewalk chalk! ... not a bad gig!"
Suzanne Miller, Nikki Cooper and myself are pooling our brains, resources, and artwork together in order to open the Green Chicks Studio. All 3 of us are "chicks" who focus on going "green" and using recycled materials in our artwork. Currently, the hallway is under a bit of construction, but we do have work upstairs in a lovely room that has been transformed from a stinky old beauty parlor into an inviting work space filled with lots of brightly colored, whimsical art pieces that are available for purchase. We're open by appointment for the time being, but we're anticipating opening our door to the public with regular business hours coming up here in the next couple of weeks (hopefully before the end of October). The entrance is seen in the picture above. We are located directly above The Green Door. Open the black door on the left, go up the stairs, and we will be at the top, greeting you with a smile. Some of the work that you might find includes: sculptures, paintings, jewelry, rugs, bowls, aprons, puppets, recycled crayons, greeting cards, and a few furniture pieces. Prices range greatly from small $2 items all the way up to larger paintings that may be priced around $200. We also have lots of affordable kid friendly pieces. Be sure to come up and check out the Green Chicks Studio! |
Nikki SaugstadOnce upon a time (which happens to be NOW) a crazy lady decided to take a leap of faith in order to pursue a dream. This is the story of a teacher jumping out into the art world (with the help of her loving husband & his "parachute"). Welcome to my adventure. Archives
