This past week, I had the privilege of leading a t-shirt scarf workshop to benefit the Crossroads team traveling to El Salvador this summer. This team will be working hand in hand with Compassion International, ministering to children (and through children, actually reaching entire cultures around the world) in extreme poverty. My husband and I have been sponsoring a little boy (Luis) in Bolivia through Compassion for about 2 years. I love getting his notes! His last letter had a picture of a soccer game that he drew, as soccer is his favorite sport, and a note written by his mother translated by a Compassion staff member into English.
I know that God is more than capable of reaching Luis and his family on his own, but how cool is it that he has invited our family to walk along side them, encourage them, share truth, and share the details of our lives? That's pretty awesome if you ask me! A number of the team members traveling to El Salvador will be able to connect with their individual sponsored children, as our church here in Monroe partners with a church in the city of El Salvador that they will be working in. Some day, I pray that my family and I will be able to meet our sponsored child in Bolivia.
The t-shirt workshop was a success! I was able to show 6 ladies how to take an old t-shirt and transform it into a fun new accessory. Fun was had by all (if they didn't have fun, they faked it well) and $145 in free will donations was collected to support the El Salvador team.
Since Peter was born, I've struggled with "my place." I know that this is a season in my life where I have been called to serve and support my husband and my son. This is a priority that comes before everything else except my relationship with God ... but the worker bee in me often struggles with that being enough. I know that God has wired me with a creative side. It wasn't a mistake. God doesn't make mistakes. Long ago before I could speak or pick up a paint brush, he planted a creative seed in me, but how am I supposed to use that for the kingdom of God? When I'm able to be a part of events like this, my spirit smiles. Using my creative side to bring others together in support of missions ... this is my dream. I'm so thankful that I get to live it out. Thank you, Lord! I want more please.
